Well I went to see the movie “Green Lantern” at midnight last night and I thought that a review from a regular guy, and super nerd would be helpful to those that are wanting to see the movie but are hearing nothing but “critics” opinions. I’m just a regular movie goer that likes superhero movies. Read my review after the jump! ***NO SPOILERS***
Ok, so I have been super excited about this movie for about a year now and I couldn’t wait to see DC’s next big movie in response to Marvels heroes basically ruling the box office. Ok here goes:
The CG was pretty darn impressive actually, however at times its looked like it was a green version of Avatar, where everything seemed to be in CG and you kind of wondered if you were watching a live action movie or a Pixar film. The way they made the green light into different things was done well, and was pretty awesome at times. It is exactly what you pictured the Green Lanterns creations would look like in real life.
I think that Ryan Reynolds made a great Hal Jordan although at times it was hard to take him seriously, especially when there were parts in the movie where you were supposed to believe he was being serious.
It stayed true to the comics for the most part and explained his story enough so that a non comic reader would understand. Although, it seemed like they were reading a story to me at times. They would just explain things over some cool space effects and then the story would pick up. I didn’t feel like they took the time to fully engulf me in the world of the Lanterns.
At times it seemed a little cheesy, yes I know its a comic book character and their villans are over exaggerated but still it felt like I was reading a comic from the 60’s in some parts. Very “Batman & Robin” ish sometimes.
Unfortunately after the movie I craved for more story, more green light and just More in general. It seemed to all be thrown together quickly and I feel as though the time wasn’t taken to attach me to the great character that the Green Lantern is.
But overall, if your looking to be entertained with some cool effects, good looking people and some humor thrown in then I recommend taking a trip to the theater this weekend.
