It’s Not You, It’s Your Gender.

When being forced to make a decision what do you do? Do you take your time and analyze everything carefully causing more stress? Well if you’re a woman you do! According to a new article published in Current Directions in Psychological Science there’s a significant difference between the sexes when stressed: Men take more risks, and women play it safe.

When it comes to being under the gun, men become risk takers and make decisions much faster than women. On the flip side, our female counterparts end up taking much longer to make decisions.
The lab conducting the study found that when participants weren’t stressed, the decision-making process of both sexes didn’t vary noticeably. But when the heat was turned up, they noticed a significant difference. Researchers found that the risk-taking trend emerged because men focused more on the potential benefits rather than shortcomings.
While this seems like a new discovery, women probably already knew this. Maybe that’s why they look to us when they can’t make up their minds, and after years of practice, maybe that’s why we’re comfortable in the decision-making role.
