As a cat person I find this next bit of news pretty funny! When you’re feeling down and the day has relentlessly beaten you down to a miserable pulp, you being to cry alone in the corner of your one bedroom apartment. When behold! A furry paw touches you ever so gently and your loving puppy sits beside you to let you know that everything is going to be ok. He does this because of the loving attachment he shares with you on a personal level right? NOPE! According to a study, dogs will cuddle up next to ANYBODY that’s crying. While it’s still pretty cool that dogs feel the need to reassure us humans in distress, according to scientists anyway.
Researchers at Goldsmiths, University of London said there has been anecdotal evidence of this in the past but no scientific studies to prove they filmed 18 dogs of various breeds in their homes as the owner, and then a stranger, started to talk, hum loudly and then pretend to cry. All but three of the dogs stopped what they were doing and approached the distressed person submissively, then touched them in a reassuring way even when it was the stranger.
Don’t feel so special now do you? At least I know that not only does my cat not give a crap about me, he doesn’t give a crap about anybody else either.
