Jared From Subway!

Got a chance to talk with Jared Fogle from the Subway commercials about what he was doing in Dayton. He attended the Dayton Dragon’s 5K as well as went and talked to the summer camp kids at the YMCA about childhood obesity and some ways to stay in shape as they grow up. Also discussed some of his mistakes growing up and the challenge he still deals with everyday with his weight. He talks about starting The Jared Foundation as well as his book “Winning Through Losing” that gives some tips that he used while he was losing the weight that can be adapted for those of us who need to shed a few pounds. Chocolate Makes You Skinny!

You read that title correctly. Finally scientist are studying things that I actually care about, Chocolate! Someone better send a notice to the Walgreens on my route home because I’m buying all of their Easter candy. Ok, maybe not ALL the candy…just the chocolate Snicker eggs. So good. Anyway back to the story, scientists at the University Of California, San Diego have proven that eating chocolate actually makes you skinny. Im sure that doens’t mean you should eat a pound of it a day, but we can hope right?

They tested over 1000 healthy men and women who worked out at least 3.6 times a week and ate a balanced nutritional diet. Some of them were given a reasonable amount of chocolate to comsume 5 times a week and some were not. Well, they found the ones that ate the chocolate had a smaller body mass index than those who ate it less often. This worked for a couple of reasons, check them out after the jump!

Your Brain Wants You Drunk!

Apparently tossing a few drinks back daily may be good for your brain. Also, don’t exercise too much and sleep 7 hours a night. Sounds like a great life right? Well according to a new study these things are good for your brain.

For every extra hour of sleep you get, up to seven hours, your speed and accuracy on test questions goes up 4%.  Once you sleep MORE than seven hours though, your scores actually go down.

Want to Look 10 Years Younger?

 

Well then throw on some baby-making music and GET YOU FREAK ON!

A new study shows that sex is related to good health and although women feel that sex is more of an obligation these days it could help them look 10 years younger.  Elizabeth Cahill of HealthyWomen said, quote, “an active sex life can decrease stress, strengthen pelvic floor muscles, increase immune system function and burn calories.”  

Women who have sex more than 4 times per week look up to 10 years younger than their actual age. So men, you have a few new pick up lines to choose from, I’ll give you a couple! 

“Hey baby, let me help to boost that colligen level…giggity” 

“Having sex with me will make you live longer”

“Quick! Lets go back to my place, I can see your health is fading and your in need of an injection!”
